Saint Laurent is a French fashion house of luxury clothing for men and women, founded in 1961 by the homonymous designer together with his life partner and business partner, Pierre Bergé.
The designer has popularized the pret-à-porter formula in international fashion between the '70s and' 80s. Elegant and determined, the designer has been able to understand the feminine desire for modernity and freedom, interpreting it with taste and creativity.
Yves Saint Laurent revolutionized the world of fashion: formal rigor, exotic fabrics and color mix were his strong points. The use of classic elements of the male wardrobe to the female one, has brought out the idea of the "tuxedo" for women, a sign of style and symbol of female emancipation. The "safari jacket", the "caban", the "nude look" clothes, the "dress-shirts" designed by Yves have become, in a short time, "icons", unique elements capable of making the French maison famous in the world.
After the departure of the founding designer, the rudder of the style passed to Tom Ford, in 2000, and subsequently, to the creative direction of Stefano Pilati, exactly from 2002 to 2012.
In 2012 it was the turn of Hedi Slimane who, after having worked for Christian Lacroix and Louis Vuitton, was appointed to the artistic direction of Saint Laurent, which has recently been named for names, and does not present the name of Yves in the logo. The stylist of Berber origin makes a great revolution on the male jacket making it an appendage of the female body, with a perfect and unique fitting.
The direct creative shows, once again, collections that are the demonstration of how much fashion, designed by Yves in the second half of the last century, is still very current and trendy.
Slimane designs Yves' saharians in a revised manner, but also prints, strong colors, smoke, micro-spotted, bermudas, bows, transparencies, the nude look, leather belts on chiffon dresses, long skirts in leather, the lamé "V" sweaters, thus recalling the immortality of the artistic creativity of the great French designer.
In 2016 the creative direction is entrusted to the young Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello until then leading the Versus Versace brand.
