Martin Margiela

Maison Martin Margiela is a famous brand, among the most mysterious of the fashion world, founded in 1988 by the homonymous Belgian designer, together with Jenny Meirens.

The intellectual and avant-garde designer-artist is one of the founders of the style called "the school of Antwerp" and in '97 was responsible for the women's line of Hèrmes, mixing customs and renewal.

Martin Margiela designs innovative pret-a-porter lines, in which the garments appear to be deconstructed from the shape.

The designer was a fashion designer of high fashion vintage: "customizing" the creations, creating unique and original models, with visible seams.

Moreover, Maison Martin Margiela presents the collections as if they were real artistic performances or fashion shows, launching a trend destined to be imitated, as well as the use of new garments next to used, disassembled and sewn garments, "ennobled" with atelier workings, dyes and special treatments.

The creations combine different materials, such as jute, plastic and light-transparent fibers, creating pieces whose details are not shown on the outside.

Margiela likes to revive old clothes, showcasing linings and inner parts, detaching and sewing the sleeves in a new way.

This representation of style regains and increases the punk and street style tradition, where t-shirts and jeans must appear strictly torn and cut.

In 2002, Maison Martin Margiela was acquired by the group Only The Brave (OTB) owned by Renzo Rosso, who already manages Diesel and Staff International.

From 2014, however, the creative direction of the house has been entrusted to the French designer John Galliano.
