Balenciaga

Balenciaga is a prestigious French clothing and luxury accessories brand, which bears the name of its creator, the well-known Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga.

Currently the brand is part of the Kering Group.

Cristobal was born in 1895 and spent his life totally in the fashion industry. In 1937 he opened his own fashion house in France, which reached the peak of success in the 50s and 60s.

Balenciaga, which was a source of inspiration for the new generations of famous designers, such as Oscar de la Renta, André Courrèges, Emanuel Ungaro, and Hubert de Givenchy, died in 1972.

From 1997 and for the next 15 years, the Balenciaga collections have been designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, who has turned his attention to a wide range of precious fabrics, in a triumph of chic and glamor drapes, made of satin, printed silk , smooth velvet or dévoré.

Alexander Wang instead amazes for collections with strong lines and clean, easy to wear even in real life.

Wang's goal is to modernize Balenciaga by making it a sporty and chic brand, helping with minimalist and slightly avant-garde garments, and often playing with transparencies.

From 2015, the creative direction passes into the hands of Demna Gvasalia, formerly head of the creative team behind the Vetements phenomenon.
